About Jay Hait
I know what it’s like to sit where you’re sitting.
I went through divorce litigation in both the United States and Israel. It was devastating. I was eventually awarded custody of my three minor children, and I’ve since remarried — but I remember exactly what those years felt like. The confusion. The fear about money. The nights spent wondering whether I’d still be a real presence in my children’s lives.
I also remember something else: the feeling that the system was operating in a language I didn’t fully speak, at a speed I couldn’t control, with consequences I couldn’t undo.
That experience is why this firm exists.
Why I practice family law in Israel
I’m licensed in both Israel and New York, and I’ve been practicing law for over twenty years. I made Aliyah with my family in 2004. After going through the Israeli family court system myself, I knew there was a better way to guide people through it — and I opened a practice focused on divorce and family law for English speakers.
Knowing Western law and understanding the Israeli system are two different skills. Most lawyers here have one. Anglo clients get better outcomes when their attorney has both, because so much of what goes wrong in these cases comes from assumptions carried over from home that simply don’t apply in an Israeli courtroom.
I represent clients in both the Family Courts and the Rabbinic Courts. I’m also a certified mediator, which means I can tell you honestly whether your case belongs in a negotiation or in front of a judge — and I’ll tell you which, based on your situation and not on what’s easier.
In 2026, Hait Family Law was admitted to the Duns 100 rankings for family law in Israel.
What working with us looks like
Most people who call this office are frightened. Not of the divorce itself — of what they don’t know. How does the Israeli system actually work? Will I be financially secure? What happens to my relationship with my kids?
Those questions have answers. My team and I give them to you in English, at every stage, before each step happens rather than after. You’ll know what’s coming, what it means, and what we’re doing about it.
We work on flat fees for divorce cases. You’ll know what your case costs before it begins — no hourly meter running when you call with a question, and no invoice you didn’t see coming in the middle of the hardest year of your life.
We handle divorce, custody, division of assets and pensions, spousal support, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and Hague Convention cases. Through our Elder Law Division, we also handle wills, estates, and continuing powers of attorney.
Where we practice
We have offices in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Ra’anana, Modi’in, Beit Shemesh, and Zichron Yaakov, and we represent clients abroad by video — in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and South Africa.
